Poll: Border Plan Gives Bush A Boost

Poll: Border Plan Gives Bush A Boost
Most Americans Approve Of Sending National Guard To U.S.-Mexico Border

NEW YORK, May 18, 2006

Americans narrowly approve of the government collecting phone records to use in the fight against terrorism. But when asked if phone companies should be sharing such information, they're strongly opposed.

(CBS) There's growing support for President Bush on the hot-button issue of immigration, according to a CBS News poll.

Most Americans say they approve of the immigration reform proposals the president outlined in a nationally televised address earlier this week. They're also somewhat optimistic that Congress will pass an immigration bill by year’s end.

Sixty-two percent favor the president's plan to station up to 6,000 National Guard troops at the U.S.-Mexico border, while 32 percent are opposed.

Six in 10 also approve of Mr. Bush's proposal for a guest worker program, which would let foreign workers stay in the United States on a temporary basis and then return to their home country.

An even higher number, 77 percent, support a program that would clear the way for illegal immigrants to seek citizenship if they've been in the United States for at least five years, pay a fine and back taxes, learn to speak English and have no criminal record.

Well either the 'Flim Flam Man' pulled a rabbit out of the hat or CBS only polled invaders and the usual suspects. I saw a poll taken the day of Bush's speech that reflected results that showed 67% of Americans were in favor of stopping all immigration. I can't find that poll today, however I have some poll links below that do not coincide with the CBS poll. Of course the 'Red Herring' of 'The Guard To The Border' may have fooled some of the uninformed and Lord knows this nation is filled with the uninformed.

The Guard have no police powers when they have been Federalized. Deploying 6000 Guardsmen to the border is like pouring water down a crayfish hole. Work permits is amnesty by another name. It's all being orchestrated by the 'Flim Flam Man' and his band of 'Merry Cronies'. In the end its a lot to do about nothing and the invasion continues unabated, just as Bush & Co want it to.
